All Grade Levels
An orchestra member visits your classroom to speak about and demonstrate his/her
instrument. Interactive conversation gets lively as students ask questions
about music and career. The musician may challenge students with questions,
too!
All Levels
Small ensembles perform, demonstrate and answer questions
for music classes or assembly programs.
Grades 3-6
Musicians bring a variety of instruments from three
families of the orchestra. After an introductory talk
about the history and a demonstration of how the instruments
are played, the students have the opportunity to try
playing a violin, trumpet, cymbals, snare drum, and
even an alp horn.
Middle & High
School
A musician leads sectionals in
middle or high school orchestras or bands. One-on-one
lessons may comprise
part of the visit. Young musicians receive expert help
with all
aspects of playing. Side-By-Side Middle & High
School Musicians from the symphony attend an orchestra
or
band rehearsal, playing next to students in the full
ensemble, and coaching
sectionals.
High School
A conductor co-leads rehearsal with the regular director
of a high school orchestra. Expertise in repertoire
interpretation, conducting and playing technique
are shared.
High School & College
Master classes provide opportunities for students to
be evaluated and coached by a professional musician
while other students listen and learn.
Middle & High School
Friday mornings in July and August, young musicians
sit on the wings of the stage or in a front row seat
to experience a rehearsal at the Summer Pops. Symphony
musicians talk one-on-one and answer questions at the break.
